Moving the Cities

Developing solutions to the world's challenges and looking at urban and regional challenges from an international perspective - this is the idea behind the international entrepreneurship week “Moving the Cities” (MtC). After taking place at UAS7 member FH Münster University of Applied Sciences in Germany in 2023, students from our partner institutions traveled to the University of Pittsburgh, USA, last year. At a typical MtC, between 60 and 80 students from different academic backgrounds compete in international teams to find innovative solutions to regional challenges and pitch for success. 

Since 2018, this tri-continental event has been the uniting force of students, professors, industry representatives, mentors, and universities from South America, North America, and Europe. During this exciting, solution- and collaboration-oriented marathon each fall, it's all about coming together to create and grow.

We are thrilled to announce that the upcoming MtC event will be held in the vibrant city of Santiago de Chile this October! Hosted and organized by our partner institutions INACAP, Universidad de las Américas, and Universidad de Santiago de Chile. Stay tuned for more information about this year's event, coming soon!

The Swanson School of Engineering of the University of Pittsburgh hosted the 2024 edition of the multicultural event "Moving the Cities", connecting global minds to find meaningful solutions to regional problems.

Entrepreneurship Week "Moving the Cities" at Münster UAS

Münster University of Applied Sciences is setting an example for global peace in the anniversary year of the Peace of Westphalia: 64 students from six countries developed solutions for the world's challenges during the international entrepreneurship week "Moving the Cities". Their project work was dedicated to Westphalian Peace and the 17th UN Sustainable Development Goal, "Partnerships to Achieve the Goals."

Moving the Cities 2022: Students develop solutions tackling SDG 11

This year, the hybrid event took place from 17 to 28th of October, gathering more than 140 students from 12 universities from all over the world. The multicultural teams worked hard to develop solutions tackling the Sustainable Development Goal 11: make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.

Moving the Cities 2021 - Hybrid entrepreneurship week with 145 students from 6 countries

Health, education and climate protection are three of the United Nations' global Sustainable Development Goals. Now, 145 students from six countries dedicated a whole week to these goals: During the Entrepreneurship Week "Moving the Cities" they developed solutions for the world's most pressing challenges. The event took place online, with only the kick-off event happening at the Teatro UNISINOS in Porto Alegre.

Moving the Cities 2020, Hackathon Uniting Industry & Academia

Moving the Cities is an international event that has been reoccurring annually since 2018. It unites students, professors, industry representatives and universities from all over the world. The goal of Moving the Cities is to look at regional challenges that cities face from an international perspective. To do just that, 135+ students from 6 countries collaborated digitally for one week. 28 internationally mixed teams with participants from Brazil, Chile, Germany, Colombia, England and the USA competed in the final pitches to convince the international jury of their solution.
