The rapid development of cities poses unique challenges at a time when urban areas worldwide are threatened by climate and environmental change. How can we make cities smarter and more sustainable using the latest technologies from renewable energy to smart grids? The one-hour live web-talk, Rethinking Cities contributed to this ongoing dialogue by addressing issues of sustainability, smart technologies, governance, and design from the perspective of the communities that inhabit these spaces.

On November 5 and 6, UAS7 had the opportunity to participate in the Annual Goethe Institut "Career Booster Germany" - per 2020 restrictions in virtual form. This year, UAS7 was represented in three separate sessions, presenting Study Opportunities at Universities of Applied Sciences and graduate programs. David Driscoll studied abroad at HAW Hamburg in 2009 as part of the UAS7 Study and Internship Program. Today he works as a Senior Designer for the Peter Schmidt Group in Munich. But it all started with a glimpse of his German heritage in 1997.

Danielle Kline participated in the UAS7 Study Program in Spring 2018 during her undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. On January 22, 2020, Consul General David Gill invited UAS7 friends and alumni as well as other German universities to the annual New Year’s Reception, traditionally taking place at the Consul’s residence.

On December 4, 2019, we organized our annual holiday party, in cooperation with the liaison offices of German universities located in New York City. As in previous years, friends and alumni of 16 German universities as well as the German Research Foundation (DFG) came together at the New York premises of Fresenius University of Applied Sciences to kick-off the holiday season.
