Project description
Technological Focus: Sensor Systems/Imaging – Electronics - Agricultural Field Robots
Laboratory Infrastructure:
1-Laboratory for Micro- and Optoelectronics
2- Research Center Intelligent Sensor Systems (ISYS)
3-Competence Center of Applied Agricultural Engineering (COALA)
Development, characterization and application of sensor, imaging and mechatronic systems (such as field robots) in agriculture and horticulture.
Remark: However, other fields of applications for electronics, sensors and mechatronic systems are possible (such as automotive or production)
Note: The work is typically embedded in a research project in cooperation with companies. The student is a member of a team, in most cases with interdisciplinary members.
Tasks
There is a large number of projects in the technological profiles given above. The focus - depending on the student’s abilities
Sensor development
Image processing
Application of imaging systems and sensors
Test measurements
Algorithms
Outdoor field tests
Data base
Robot navigation and path planning
Moreover, there are also getting-started options, particular working with laboratory experiments for the modules “Sensor system
Requirements
Basic knowledge in mathematics, physics, electronics and programming
Interest in one of the technologies or application areas (sensors, imaging/machine vision, electronics, autonomous field robots, agriculture, horticulture)
In most cases a background in electrical engineering, computer science or mechatronics nicely fits to the project, however, also students from agriculture or life sciences with a focus on technology are welcome
