New Year’s Mixer
This year’s New Year’s reception went virtual! On January 14, 2021, the UAS7 North America Office invited friends and alumni to the traditional New Year’s reception, organized in cooperation with the Liaison offices of Campus OWL, Fresenius University of Applied Sciences, Heidelberg University, University Alliance Ruhr, University of Cologne, University of Freiburg, Hasso Plattner Institute, German Research Foundation, Technical University of Darmstadt and Technical University of Munich and hosted by the Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in New York, Mr. David Gill.
Our motivated team of Liaison Office interns took over the organization of the event this year and impressed everyone with a highly professional alumni networking night, filled with highlights, which included:
- Welcome remarks by Consul General David Gill
- Musical contributions by Eleanor Dubinsky & Band
- Networking in Breakout Sessions
- A raffle for the most creative Zoom background
Welcome remarks, Breakout Room Networking and Musical Contributions
After welcoming remarks by Mr. Gill, who gave a virtual tour of the German Consulate and looked back at the past year, all participants met up in breakout sessions, catching up with old and new friends, fellow alumni and like-minded peers.
For a real New Year’s Party feeling, Eleanor Dubinsky & Dario intervened with three musical contributions throughout the evening. With their soft French sounds and swing tunes no one remained seated in their chairs at the end of the night – even those participating from Germany, for whom the party only started at midnight, didn’t seem to be getting tired.
Raffle for the most creative Zoom background
With her unique virtual background guiding everyone through New York’s East Village, UA Ruhr Alumna Janna Aarse won a fully customizable City Poster by mygeogram.
All other participants also showed great creativity, which didn’t make the jury's decision easy. Sitting in front of the Collosseum, the Freiburg Cathedral or even in outer space, the virtual party took everyone to different places.
We’d like to thank our friends and alumni for attending this unique New Year’s event and making it a success. Special thanks go to Consul General David Gill for his kind remarks and for hosting the event, all German Liaison Offices for their support in organizing the evening, Eleanor Dubinsky & Dario for making it a special night as well as Long Do Hoang, Julia, and An Thu for planning the event and providing technical support.
