Virtual Germany Grad Fair 2023
On Oct. 27, the New York based German university liaison offices hosted the fourth virtual Germany Grad Fair for North American (and beyond) undergraduate and graduate students interested in graduate studies in Germany. Mariella de Cavalho of the German consulate general in New York welcomed everyone, and we offered presentations on the German graduate landscape and funding opportunities, and keynotes on why and how to get to Germany. In individual Q&A sessions participants could speak directly to us and partnering organizations. At peak times, 143 participants logged in.
Over a dozen partner institutions helped us by providing their time and information. Special thanks to our alumni keynote speakers Claire MacFarlane and Laura Hohmann, who also stayed on for individual Q&As. We thank the German consulate and Anna Miebach for providing a session on consular services and visa matters. We thank the participating funding organizations for their time on stage (DAAD's Ethan Grandel) and in three individual Q&A sessions: Myoung-Shin Kim and Ethan Grandel hosted the DAAD session, Dana Cowlishaw of the German Research Foundation, and Madeline Friedrich of the American Friends of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Further, our partner organizations, the Goethe-Institut New York (Robert Bloom and Lucy Patterson), as well as CBYX, the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange with Max Flescher, as well as the German Center for Research and Innovation New York were part of this.
And of course of us, the German universities represented in New York, organized and participated: Campus OWL, Hasso Plattner Institute, Heidelberg University, the University of Cologne, University Alliance Ruhr, as well as University of Freiburg were constitutive part of the event. The UAS7 New York office implemented the Germany Grad Fair 2023 on behalf of them. Thanks here in particular to Carina Boland, who is currently interning at the New York office.
Overall, we had many interesting and informative conversations and hope to stay in touch with the participants.
