Development and application of flow measurement techniques
University
FH Münster University of Applied Sciences
Fields
Mechanical Engineering
Duration
3-6 months
Deadline
February 15 for fall internship
October 1 for spring internship
Supervisor
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Vennemann
Project description
Depending on skills and interest, different projects in the field of flow measurement and visualization are possible. Available are a laser Doppler anemometer (LDA), a particle image velocimetry (PIV) system, hot wire anemometers and a small wind tunnel. In previous UA7 internships, students developed fluid force measurements on car side mirrors and power curve measurements on model wind turbines for educational uses. Future projects may focus on the measurement of indoor ventilation flows or smoke / laser visualizations of different ventilation set-ups. Other project ideas are welcome.
Tasks
Depending on the selected project:
Literature study of theoretical background and state of the art
Calculating and dimensioning
Prototyping and 3D printing
Measuring and evaluating
Programming microcontrollers and other laboratory work
Documenting
Requirements
Basic knowledge and interest in fluid mechanics
Construction and programming
The internship is especially suitable for students of mechanical engineering or similar courses at advanced bachelor level.
Languages
English at least at intermediate level.
Basic German knowledge is advantageous.
