The Internet of Things
Lecturers: Prof. Dr. Clemens Westerkamp (HS Osnabrück), Dr. Hany Elgala (UAlbany)
Format: Online and offline, synchronous and asynchronous
Timeline: April 4th - May 11th, 2021
Objectives: Understanding the building blocks of IoT systems and the underlying technologies that drive their revolution. Applying ML to address different requirements related to signal processing, communication, and control. Getting experimental and simulation experience while developing IoT systems and ML models
using state-of-the-art platforms; WiPy from Pycom and Coral Dev Board/USB Accelerator.
Tasks: Students use and install m5Stack/SUNY hardware/software tools, comparing their results in mixed groups. Groups operate the system on the other side of the ocean remotely. Both sub-groups write a protocol of carrying out the examples remotely and exchange it asynchronously. Students develop own product/service ideas according to the different application fields (offline) and present the ideas to a virtual “product management” (a jury) with the idea of founding a OS/NY joint venture (online). They start implementing a prototype.
