Heidelberg University_virtual Germany Grad Fair 2025

Heidelberg University is Germany’s oldest university, consistently ranked among the top three universities in Germany, and one of the strongest research universities in Europe. Heidelberg University offers the full spectrum of disciplines — from the humanities, law, and social sciences to the natural and life sciences, including medicine — with collaboration across fields. This includes our Clusters of Excellence and, for example, four new cross-border, cross-institutional doctoral networks. 

This session will feature opportunities for Master and PhD students. We will also present our HAUS Study Scholarship for study in 2026-27 (the call for applications will open in early 2026).

University of Freiburg_virtual Germany Grad Fair 2025

University of Freiburg
The University of Freiburg, founded in 1457, is one of the most renowned universities in Germany, located in the Southwest corner of Baden-Wuerttemberg near France and Switzerland. With eleven faculties, around 240 degree programmes, and 440 full professorships as well as 32 junior professorships, it covers a broad interdisciplinary spectrum with high-quality research and teaching. The University of Freiburg regularly takes top positions in prestigious rankings. In the Shanghai Ranking, for example, it comes in at fifth place in nationwide comparison and is listed among the 101–150 best universities worldwide. The University currently has around 24,500 students, 4,745 doctoral candidates, and a total of 8,489 employees, 5,936 of them in academic positions. Twenty-three Nobel laureates are associated with the University of Freiburg. The University secured 219 million euros in third-party funding in 2023 and received 16 ERC Grants between 2019 and 2023. 
 
The University of Freiburg is taking important steps towards the future, which includes a university-wide approach to central topics like governance, research, teaching, sustainability, and science communication. As part of its strategic development, the success of two Clusters of Excellence in the Excellence Strategy of the federal and state governments, CIBSS and Future Forests, has set the University of Freiburg on the path to apply for the title of University of Excellence.

The University Alliance Ruhr is a strategic alliance of Ruhr University Bochum, TU Dortmund University and the University of Duisburg-Essen, located in the heart of Germany. Together, we form one of Europe’s most dynamic academic research hubs, home to 120,000 students, with 17% of whom are international, supported by a research community of 14,000 scholars. With 17 collaborative research centers and more than €330 million in annual research funding, UA Ruhr fosters innovation across disciplines!

In our breakout session, we will provide information about our wide variety of graduate degree programs at our universities and the opportunities they offer for international students. We also have 100% English-taught degree programs, spanning the humanities to STEM subjects, ensures that students from around the world can find their right academic and professional path.
