UAS7 engages in Virtual Study Abroad & Career Fairs this fall

To promote our seven Universities of Applied Sciences in North America, UAS7 usually engages in several Study Abroad and Career Fairs at our partner universities each fall. This year, everything has changed - and we decided to go virtual!
UAS7 @ SUNY Albany Information Session Study & Intern in Germany
One of the set events in our calendar is the Study Abroad fair at our partner university SUNY Albany. This year, however, the event had to move to a virtual setting which made participation for international partners a bit more complicated. Regardless, we wanted to give all interested students the opportunity to learn more about UAS7 and our Study and Internship Program (SIP) and decided to host a separate event with our colleague Jay Stokes, the Study Abroad Advisor at the University at Albany. We met in a Zoom-Session, where both parties gave presentations on the opportunities within SUNY Albany as well as with the UAS7 Study and Internship Program. As virtual learning doesn’t simplify the students schedules per se, we decided to record the session and make it available beyond our Zoom-Call. All those interested in learning about Study Abroad, not only with SUNY Albany, are invited to watch the recording:
Please note: While this session was recorded for SUNY students specifically, the UAS7 Study & Internship Program is open to ALL STUDENTS enrolled at colleges and universities in the USA and Canada. If you are not a SUNY student, watch from min. 17:15!
UAS7 @ University of Alabama Huntsville Fall 2020 Career Fair
The second virtual recruiting event UAS7 participated in, was the career fair of the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Other than with SUNY, this fair was hosted on a platform called Handshake, which provides the opportunity to give presentations, schedule 1:1 sessions, or just chat with prospective candidates.
To kick off the event, we gave a presentation on “University research Internships in Germany” for interested students from Huntsville. Afterwards, Nele Kirstein (UAS7 Berlin) and Friederike Mönning (Virtual Intern) had several 1:1 video-sessions with students, who were able to ask more specific questions and get to know UAS7. The event format was a great way to connect with prospective candidates and we are definitely looking forward to similar events in the future.

Wrapping it up...
Our recent experiences show that Covid-19 may have an impact on the current situation but doesn't necessarily have to be a reason to cancel events completely. For us, moving certain events to virtual opened up new opportunities to attend various events in a short amount of time and across geographical borders.
While looking forward to future virtual fairs, we also hope to be able to host in-person events again very soon!
