Improving nutrient use efficiency for arable crops

There are several ongoing R&D projects focusing on aspects of applied plant nutrition (e.g. use of sensor technologies in crop production [wheat, oil seed rape]; optimizing the nutrient application strategies for mineral/organic fertilizers) and crop production. Please find further details here.

Depending on the student’s abilities and interests a suitable topic will be selected.

Tasks

  • Field work (support experimental field trial work)
  • Greenhouse work
  • Lab work (analyzing soil/plant samples)
  • Data Analysis
  • Literature research

Requirements

  • Students of Agronomy (preferred), Biology, Environmental Sciences
  • Graduate student or undergraduate student (at least beginning of the 3rd year)
  • Basic skills in scientific working (lab and/or field experiments) and/or plant production

Language Skills

Good English language skills (German: Not necessary, but beneficial)

Duration

3-6 months

Internship in Vegetation Ecology at

Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences

Project

The Faculty of Agriculture and Landscape of Osnabrück UAS has started the research network Urban AgriCulture (including topics like urban farming, urban planning, resource management, urban biodiversity).

In this subproject the effects of urban land use on natural and semi-natural vegetation will be studied.

Tasks

  • Literature research
  • Field work (vegetation, site characteristics)
  • Data analysis

Requirements

  • Students of Biology, Environmental Sciences, Ecology, Landscape Architecture (with ecological knowledge)
  • Graduate student or undergraduate student at the beginning of the third year or advanced
  • Basic skills in analysis of ecological data
  • Practical experience with field work

Language Skills

Good English language skills (German: Not necessary, but beneficial)

Duration

3 - 6 months

Research Project in Hydraulic and Coastal Engineering

at HSB Hochschule Bremen City University of Applied Sciences

Project

Research projects on flood and coastal protection, port planning and production of renewable energy are executed at the Institute for Hydraulic and Coastal Engineering (IWA) at the City University of Applied Sciences Bremen (HSB).

Tasks

·Introduction to the work at the IWA

·Selection of an appropriate project for the trainee and definition of tasks to be executed by the trainee under supervision of an expert of the IWA; the possible tasks include literary works, analytical and numerical calculations, and physical modeling

·Participation in special hydraulic and coastal engineering lessons offered by the experts of the IWA within the bachelor- and master-degree education at the HSB

·Participation in technical excursions offered by the experts of the IWA within the bachelor- and master-degree education at the HSB

·Knowledge of scientific work

English, if available knowledge of the German language
