We are seven high-achieving German universities with a modern stance. We aim to bundle our potentials in teaching, research, the transfer of science and organization, and thus pursue the strategic goals we have jointly formulated and support each other in realizing such goals to a high level of excellence.

Initial situation
The German university system is in a process of increasing differentiation. Traditional divisions are losing their significance. Until now the German system has been typified by a dual division into types of university which is hardly known in other countries and is unable to meet the demands currently made on Germany universities and nor to pursue the goals of the Bologna process. Instead of legally prescribed rigid university structures inimical to progress, there will be a situation characterized by smooth transitions and flexible categories.All German universities therefore have to accept the challenge of defining themselves, of determining their current position in the university landscape and, with a view to their future position, of formulating the appropriate developmental goals. In this process of reorientation, setting up strategic alliances will be a considerable help and therefore play a vital role.
Bearing this in mind seven leading universities have formed an alliance, with the aim of uniting their potentials and strengths in numerous fields of competence, formulating joint strategic goals and supporting each other in realizing such goals.

The member universities of UAS7 therefore wish to cooperate intensively in all fields of work, and mutually to strengthen and expand their range of services. At the same time, they can guarantee to students and members of the universities concerned a unique additional benefit.

The alliance requires a clear legal basis. In its current stage of development it appears as a registered non-profit making institution. The agreed goals can only be reached if UAS7 remains a manageable group. Therefore, its composition should not be changed for the time being.
However, by no means does the alliance have an exclusive character. Cooperation with other universities and alliances is desirable in every case.
The university administrations of the member universities will incorporate these agreements into the production of the university development plans, and will do their utmost to ensure that the bodies and committees, offices and members of their universities realize the desired goals and the agreed measures.
